  • MINI Cooper AC stopped working, how do I pick the right compressor?

My little MINI has been my daily car for four years, and now the AC has let me down in the worst month of the year. It is a 2014 Cooper S. About ten days ago the air started getting weaker, and then one morning it just blew warm air. I also heard a loud squeal from the engine for a few seconds before it stopped. I took it to a small garage and the man told me the compressor is finished. He said I need a new one, but he did not tell me if it would be new, used or a copy. My friend has a Countryman and he said this is how people lose money, because a cheap compressor can break again in a few months. My brother thinks I worry too much and should just say yes. I did not want to guess, so one night I read about it online. I opened a page about Mini Cooper cars on a Sharjah website to learn how the compressor and the other parts work together. It said that when a compressor breaks with a noise, tiny bits of metal can go into the system. It also said the dryer should be changed and the lines should be cleaned, or the new part can fail early. I never knew that. Then a coworker told me to look for a Genuine Mini Cooper AC compressor replacement in Sharjah and to ask for the part number and a paper invoice before they start. I liked that idea, because I cannot tell a good part from a bad one just by looking. So I have some questions. How can I check if the compressor is really new and not rebuilt? Should the dryer and the cleaning be in the price, or do they charge extra? How long does the job take on a small car like mine? And what warranty is normal, three months or longer? If you changed the compressor on your MINI, please tell me about how much you paid and if the AC is still cold. Thanks a lot.
