  • Selling my BMW in two years, does covering the whole car actually pay off?

I keep going around in circles on this one, so I am hoping someone who has done the math can help me. I drive a white BMW 5 Series that is about one year old, and my plan is to sell it in two or three years and move to something newer. Everyone around me has an opinion. A friend at the office says full coverage is a smart move because buyers pay more for clean original paint, and he showed me how fast small chips and swirl marks add up on his own car. My father says that is a nice story but nobody pays extra for a clear layer they cannot even see, and the money is better saved. A guy I met at the car wash said it depends on how you use the car, and that someone who parks in a garage and drives only on weekends will get less from it than someone doing highway miles every day. I read a page on to understand what the film really does and what it costs to cover everything, and it made me think about the cost against the years I will actually own the car, which I had not done before. I also wanted to hear a Leading view on full body PPF value for luxury vehicles from people who have gone through a resale, not only from shops, because a shop will always say yes. So here is what I am wondering. Did the dealer or buyer actually offer you more when they saw the paint was perfect, or did they not even notice? Is there a risk that removing the film after three years leaves marks or glue on the paint? Would covering only the front and the mirrors give most of the benefit for a much lower price? And if the car gets a small accident, is it a headache to repair the film panel? I would really like honest numbers and stories, good or bad. Thanks for reading.
