To-Do 3 – Get A D-U-N-S® Number What to Do When You Don’t Find Your Company on D&B
RoseAllure August 29, 2022
So what should you do if you have searched the Dun & Bradstreet database and not found your business profile? If your company does not show up, you can get a D-U-N-S® Number as soon as possible by using this link. It takes about half a minute and is completely free of charge. You will, however, need your SIC code. If you don’t already have your SIC code, you can get it through the NAICS Association website. Scroll to the bottom and use the “Search SIC Codes by Industry” to get your SIC code.
There are other options for getting your D-U-N-S® Number. This includes:
DUNSFile™: With DUNSFile™, you will have a D-U-N-S® Number for your business profile in less than five days. You’ll also have a basic Dun & Bradstreet credit file created for your business

Small Business Starter: This system will also help you get a D-U-N-S® Number is less than five business days, as well as the basic credit file for your business. There are differences, however. With the Small Business Starter, your business will have a premium profile in the D&B Credibility Review™ directory, as well as a badge that can be legally displayed on your website. This not only helps in the promotion of your business, it can also boost your search engine rankings.
CreditBuilder Plus™: If you need to have your D-U-N-S® Number right away, but your business already has existing tradelines that need to be added to your D&B file, you are a perfect candidate for CreditBuilder Plus™. If you do not have trade references to cite, then you will not need to have CreditBuilder Plus™. While you’re at it, be sure to check all of your trade references for eligibility before you make a purchase with CreditBuilder Plus™. You can always set accounts and start purchasing later. You can do this with any reporting vendors that are listed in BizCredit Builder’s ( Step 20, Apply for Vendor Accounts ), assuming you do not have existing trade references that need to be cited.
As of now, it’s essential that you have a D-U-N-S® Number for your business. Keep an active profile before setting up your account, and make purchases with reporting vendors that are listed in the BizCredit Builder Wizard Step 20.
Note:
For the D&B signup, there is a toll-free number listed, but you should NOT call that number. Instead, activate your D-U-N-S® Number online, which will allow you to avoid aggressive and pushy sales tactics. When you complete your profile, you’ll likely get a call from a D&B representative stating that your profile is incomplete because no trade references are reporting to your file. Don’t worry about that for now, because in Step 20 you will learn to acquire credit from vendors that report to D&B, as well as other agencies. It only takes three trade lines to generate a score with D&B Paydex.
